NEXTDC expanded their operations in Sydney with the construction of an 8 storey 32MW data centre. The facility has been designed and constructed to meet Uptime Tier IV requirements and will service both retail and hyperscale clients.

ECS was engaged as the independent commissioning agent (ICA) by NEXTDC for the first phase of the project and then subsequently engaged for all remaining stages.

ECS’ involvement included inspection and verification of the facility’s critical electrical (HV and LV), UPS (IP Bus), generators, cooling water, data hall cooling, fire detection and suppression, diesel fuel, hydraulics, controls and building monitoring systems, security services and integrated systems testing at each handover stage.

The project was constructed at a fast pace, demanding close collaboration with services contractors to streamline the commissioning schedule. This ensured thorough verification of system functionality, interfaces and alignment with project requirements. The goal was to minimise disruptions to existing operational systems.

NDY and our colleague, Engineering Commissioning Services (ECS), maintain a long-term relationship with NEXTDC, spanning multiple facilities. Notably, ECS has authored their national commissioning plan. Our sustained collaboration stems from demonstrated capability in managing crucial infrastructure commissioning and close coordination with NEXTDC’s contractors, vendors and design team to deliver targeted outcomes.
