Situated at 550 Bourke Street, Space & Co is GPT’s newest addition to the upscale co-working market. Encompassing a generous 3,000 m2 across two levels, this cutting-edge space offers shared amenities, well-appointed offices and state-of-the-art meeting rooms. Their design philosophy revolves around the significance of fostering social connections and promoting collaboration, while catering to the rising demand for short-term leases with access to premium facilities.
Upon entering the space, visitors are greeted by an industrial aesthetic, where exposed services add character to the space. Our mechanical and electrical team worked closely with BVN architects to ensure that all services were coordinated and aligned, maintaining a straight line throughout the fitout.
Our fire protection team adapted the current fire sprinkler system, fire detection system and emergency warning system to align with the proposed layout. Furthermore, in compliance with relevant standards, new fire extinguishers were installed. The team ensured seamless coordination of fire service devices with structural elements and other services throughout the fitout.
Working in collaboration with BVN’s interiors team, NDYLIGHT contributed lighting solutions that both complemented the design approach and delivered functional outcomes.
These include:
- Flexible lighting approach and controls in meeting rooms to accommodate high-end video conferencing and informal meetings
- Intimate, ambient lighting in quiet rooms with dark interiors, utilising high-level lighting and local task lights
- Unistrut mounted downlights that highlight exposed services, showcasing them as prominent features
- Linear mini LEDs that outline the exposed A frame of the kitchenette architecture.
The absence of ceilings enhances the industrial vibe and creates an open and spacious atmosphere. Additionally, the raised floor in the kitchen area serves as a practical solution to conceal pipework for under bench pump stations, while also adding a distinctive feature.
