Located in the heart of the Gold Coast’s Broadbeach, The Star Gold Coast is a 7-acre entertainment complex comprising 7 restaurants, 8 bars, conference facilities, a ballroom, theatre and wellness centre. The complex also includes 5 star hotel The Darling and a luxury 21 floor tower standing proud at 66 metres tall.

The development, which first opened in 1985, was previously known as Jupiters Hotel and Casino and was rebranded to The Star Gold Coast in 2017.

The project’s design and construction contractor, Probuild, engaged NDY to provide mechanical and electrical services designs up to tender, with mechanical oversight through to completion of The Darling Hotel. NDY was also contracted by S.D.F. Electrical, the electrical subcontractor, to provide a detailed electrical design; and by AG Coombs to deliver a mechanical peer review for the project. In addition, NDY assisted the The Star Gold Coast’s front of house specialty lighting consultant, modelling their design in 3D to ensure coordinated and bespoke casino lighting was achieved.

Ensuring that NDY’s design solutions were aligned with end client expectations triggered innovative features for the development. For example, a specialised ventilation system to provide high quality indoor air to the premium gaming areas, as well as sustainability initiatives such as heat recovery methods.

The integration of the existing building services via a conjoined podium, including fire exit paths, was also a key design feature, with the extended egress passages requiring creative mechanical pressurisation to maintain velocity with multiple doors opening into the passageway.

In-room electrical systems combined with smart control systems are a key feature for hotel guests, who can access state-of-the-art room technology including Samsung Smart TVs, a fully integrated Bose sound system, USB ports, wi-fi, Bluetooth connectivity and revolutionary zone control – allowing guests in individual rooms to customise lighting, drapery, temperature and service to their preference.
