NDY completed building services design to RIBA stage D for the North Swindon School Private Finance Initiative Scheme. The total scheme was constructed over four separate campuses on both greenfield and brownfield sites. The development includes:
- Two eight and ten form entry secondary schools
- Three primary schools of one and two form entry
- A secondary special needs school
- A primary special needs school.
The campus facilities include specialist education and rehabilitation elements such as hydrotherapy areas and specialist learning and sensory areas, as well as community use facilities for sport and technology. The project team was committed to providing cutting edge educational centres for excellence, while also being aware of the ongoing running and maintenance issues inherent in the PFI system.
The focus and design philosophy provides a comprehensive and practicable learning environment in line with the latest recommendations and standards for education facilities. Emphasis was placed on providing an engineered solution to meet the brief requirements and provide a value engineered centre for learning.
