Representing the largest investment in cultural infrastructure by the NSW Government since the Sydney Opera House, the new Powerhouse Parramatta will enable exhibition on a grand scale of the Powerhouse collection. Its new home in Parramatta marks a major milestone, as the first major NSW cultural institution to be established in Western Sydney.
Designed by Moreau Kusunoki and Genton, Powerhouse Parramatta will be 18,000 m2 of exhibition and public space providing increased access to the museum’s extraordinary collection and education programs. It is one of the largest structural engineering and architecturally complex projects underway in Australia.
NDY has been involved with the Powerhouse Parramatta project in several roles:
- Engaged by the Powerhouse to further develop the Stage 2 design competition brief and prepare the Stage 3 client brief that was intended to guide the development of the concept design for Powerhouse Parramatta.
- Engaged by INSW as the brief writer to manage the documentation of the project brief that formed the ‘principals project requirements’ as part of the design and construct contract package that was tendered to the shortlisted construction firms
- Following RFT issue to shortlisted contractors, NDY incorporated agreed modifications to the project brief for inclusion within the construction contract.
- Following award to the successful contractor, NDY continues to assist INSW during the construction phase for compliance with the project brief.
Powerhouse Parramatta is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform and renew one of Australia’s oldest and most important cultural institutions.
With over 500,000 objects in its collection, the Powerhouse is recognised internationally as one of the great repositories of shared stories of innovation and achievement.
