The Western Sydney University Bankstown City Campus Development (BCCD) is a self-contained, 18 storey vertical campus on an underdeveloped site in the Bankstown CBD. A key component of the University’s Western Growth Program, this project is crucial to Western Sydney University facilitating the relocation of most programs from their Milperra campus to support research and education.
The move will provide opportunities for new modes of learning and working, as well as consolidation of academics and students. The location of BCCD within the Bankstown Civic Precinct, next to the Council Office and Chambers, Bankstown Knowledge Hub, the Bryan Brown Theatre and Paul Keating Park provides opportunities for crossover and collaboration between entities.
Following our successful delivery of Western Sydney University’s Liverpool campus project, NDY was engaged for the detailed design documentation of the core base building services and nine storey Western Sydney University fitout respectively. Subsequent to the completion of the base building documentation, NDY was novated to Walker Corporation for design whilst the construction phase is being carried out as an engagement to construction company Built.
Targeting a 6 Star Green Star rating for both base building and fitout has required a high level of coordination between the teams to ensure the University’s sustainability ambitions are considered and implemented at all stages of design and construction.
The project includes a high level of consideration of future proofing built into the design. To provide this, NDY included the following:
- Flexible electrical power distribution systems
- Mechanical outdoor air preconditioning solution, to enable humidity control in high population density areas
- Modular air conditioning solutions to suit differing zones and uses
- On-floor hydraulic stacks for flexibility.
