ALDI has expanded into the WA market creating a requirement for a new 50,000m² distribution centre capable of operating 24/7 and supporting more than 70 retail stores in the WA Region. The facility has been built on a 13.5 hectare site within Jandakot Airport Industrial Precinct.
The design of the facility has been based on the benchmark design developed by NDY for the ALDI Brendale Distribution centre, located in Queensland.
The warehouse incorporates an ambient warehouse space, cool house (with 3 temperature zones; chilled/ frozen/ chocolate room) and office space. The office area is in the order of 2,000 m².
The design is focused on optimising operational efficiency whilst obtaining the best safety outcomes for all staff at the centre at the lowest whole of life cost. Sustainability was a key focus with the final build achieving a 5 Star Green Star rating.
The design completed by NDY included:
- Truck wash and maintenance facilities including water reclaim and processing plant, standby generation plant, fuel storage and truck refuelling points
- Specialist fire services detection and suppression system to meet the fire engineering requirements and client brief
- Air conditioning systems which utilised the ammonia refrigeration plant to generate cooling for the administration and office areas.
