NDY was engaged by Victrack to design and document the electrical infrastructure for the North Dynon Freight Terminal, West Melbourne.

The $8.9 million Dynon Freight Terminal upgrade project included a new post-tensioned concrete hard stand to support improved container movements and increase delivery capacity, and associated services below the hard stand.

Our scope of service included the following:

  • New substation
  • Main switchboard designed for future expansion of the site
  • Conduit and cabling to serve flood lighting towers and existing building infrastructure
  • Provision for reefers to service refrigerated containers
  • Spare spaces and conduit for future expansion of the site.

Key issues to be dealt with were long cable lengths with voltage drop and earth fault complications, liaison with Citipower for an upgrade of supply and dealing with contamination.

Additionally, the nature of the hardstand required that all services for future requirements be provided at day one as the post-tensioned concrete cannot be easily modified.
