NDY was engaged to provide full building services for the new dementia unit at St Joseph’s Home of Compassion. The unit is a 16 bed, 1,000 m² facility
which connects to the existing home. The facility is specifically designed to cater for dementia patient care along with associated living, dining, courtyards
and administration areas.

The project’s features and innovations included:

  • Sustainable design initiatives included mixed mode ventilation system, heat recovery system, all-air heating/ventilation system, rainwater harvesting, solar hot water heating and advanced energy metering
  • The building also incorporates an advanced nurse call system specially designed and catered to dementia patients
  • An on-site emergency generator with automatic transfer facilities to provide essential power to the site during a power outage.

The facility is specifically designed to cater for dementia patient care along with associated living, dining, courtyards and administration areas.
