Coming from a music and engineering educated background I have always been fascinated by the field of acoustics and how it enhances our lives. Due to my exposure in both fields, I have a unique view and approach to the industry as I am able to draw from my personal connection to music and sound, but at the same time harness a practical understanding of the technical engineering design components.

I have been fortunate enough to work on many of the high profile and iconic projects in the WA market over the past 5 years; so far, a personal favourite is the Boola Katitjin Building, also known as the New Academic Building at Murdoch University. It’s a unique project, as the main structures and foundations of the building have primarily been constructed from cross laminated timber (CLT). A growing trend, CLT moves the industry towards the use of more sustainable materials that are less strenuous from a supply chain perspective, which is something that NDY advocates for as an organisation.

Throughout the project’s design process we worked closely with the architect and facade consultant as well as NDY’s own sustainability team. The collaboration ensured the building’s design meets appropriate noise levels internally and enhances thermal comfort, without comprising architectural vision, functionality and aesthetics. The building was also designed to achieve 6 Star Green Star design, targeting all acoustic credits – demonstrating that we are at the forefront of high performance acoustic design. It’s a built environment masterpiece that I am proud to be involved in.

Areas of expertise:
