Auckland

Renée Young is Mechanical Lead and Global Market Sector Leader for Residential & Hotels at NDY in Auckland, specialising in high‑performance building services with 19+ years’ experience across retail, office, mixed‑use and health. She has led delivery for New Zealand’s first IKEA at Sylvia Park and major Britomart and waterfront projects, with recent leadership across 1 Queen Street and decarbonisation works at the ANZ Centre. Renée also guides multidisciplinary teams on complex health projects, including Tauranga Hospital upgrades and COVID‑19 ventilation programs. She holds a BE (Mechanical) from the University of Auckland, is a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (CPEng, CMEngNZ) and an Auckland Council Producer Statement Author. Renée champions inclusive industry practice and brings clear leadership that aligns building performance with client, tenant and community outcomes.

based in NDY’s Auckland office, Jack specialises in mechanical design and multidisciplinary coordination with 12+ years’ experience across aviation, rail, hotels and residential projects in the UK and New Zealand. He has led building services on the City Rail Link Maungawhau (Mount Eden) Station and across the Manchester and London Stansted airport transformation programs. Jack’s portfolio also includes premium hospitality and living developments such as Galway Britomart Hotel and large‑scale residential towers in Manchester and London. He holds a BEng (Hons) in Building Services Engineering and is a Chartered Engineer with CIBSE and a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineering New Zealand. Jack started his career with NDY in New Zealand in 2016 before transferring to our peer organisation in the UK, Hoare Lea in 2022. He has recently returned to join our team in Auckland.

Valerio Giovannoni is a Mechanical Lead in NDY’s Auckland office, specialising in mechanical and hydraulic design with 13+ years’ experience across education, defence, health, laboratories and commercial projects. He has led services for Mt Albert Grammar School, multiple Budget 19 school expansions and NZDF facilities, and he is currently supporting construction delivery for the IKEA Auckland store. Valerio’s portfolio also includes NZ Blood Services laboratory refurbishments and condition assessments for heritage assets in Auckland’s CBD. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Auckland and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Sapienza University of Rome, and is a Member of Engineering New Zealand.

Brisbane

Based in our Brisbane office, Justin Peberdy specialises in sustainability, building physics and carbon strategy with 9+ years’ experience across new build and existing asset portfolios. He has led sustainability delivery for the Australian War Memorial redevelopment, the REST portfolio carbon‑neutral roadmap and aquatic, education and justice projects including Alkimos Aquatic and Whitlam School. Justin’s work spans simulation modelling, NABERS and Green Star pathways, Section J compliance and decarbonisation roadmaps for commercial and civic assets. He holds a BE (Mechanical) (Hons I) and a BCom, is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), an RPEQ and a Green Star Accredited Professional.

Canberra

Andrew O’Brien leads NDY’s Canberra office, he specialises in mechanical services for major commercial, cultural and complex technical projects with 8 years’ experience. He has led delivery at Constitution Place, introduced all‑electric solutions at the Alexander Maconochie Centre expansion and guided design across the Australian War Memorial redevelopment. Andrew’s experience also includes forensic and specialist laboratory environments, large office precincts and Defence and data centre programs. He holds a MEng (Mechanical) and BSc, and is a Chartered Professional Engineer (MIEAust CPEng, NER, APEC Engineer, IntPE). Andrew focuses on collaborative leadership, clear communication and practical innovation to meet performance targets and create reliable, comfortable spaces.

Melbourne

Maisam Mirbagheri is the Regional Manager of NDY’s Fire Engineering team in Melbourne, specialising in performance‑based fire safety for healthcare, commercial, residential and complex public buildings with 16+ years’ experience. He has led fire engineering on landmark projects including W Hotel at Collins Arch, Hilton Box Hill and Capital Square, and has delivered major health audits for Monash Health and sport and justice facilities across Australia. Maisam holds a BEng (Mechatronics) (Hons), a GradDip in Building Fire Safety and Risk Engineering and a PGCert in Bushfire Planning and Management, is a Chartered Professional Engineer and a National Engineers Register practitioner.

Matthew Italia leads the Interiors market sector for our Melbourne office and specialises in audio visual, ICT and electrical delivery for multi‑disciplinary fitouts. With 9+ years’ experience across workplace, education, health and retail, he’s led design and implementation for Energy Australia’s Two Melbourne Quarter headquarters, NAB 405 Bourke and Space & Co 550 Bourke, and delivered AV strategies for Melbourne Connect and multiple Monash University facilities. Matthew joined NDY in 2015 and serves as a single point of contact for clients, coordinating teams to balance aesthetics, function and cost with code compliance. He holds a BEng (Electrical) (Hons), is a Member of Engineers Australia and a Registered Professional Engineer.

Ben Griffin specialises in mission critical and electrical systems with 10+ years’ experience spanning data centres, renewables, commercial and retail assets. He has led projects including Minchinbury Data Centre performance analytics, FibreConX at 367 Collins Street and nationwide UPS and battery upgrades for NBN, and he supports clients with solar feasibility and peer reviews across major portfolios. Ben’s work covers critical power design, testing and commissioning, as well as power quality remediation for industrial facilities. He holds a BEng (Mechatronics) (Hons), is a Chartered Professional Engineer, an Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer and a member of Engineers Australia and EESA. Ben brings a results‑driven, collaborative approach that strengthens resilience, efficiency and project delivery.

Perth

Carl Davies specialises in mechanical services and project delivery with 25+ years’ experience across retail, data centres, health, civic and industrial projects. He has led or managed services for Joondalup HBF Lap Pool, the Armadale Aquatic Centre redevelopment, Digital Realty and Colt data centres, and the WA Police Headquarters. Carl is a Chartered Engineer with a BEng (Hons) in Building Services Engineering and is a member of CIBSE and AIRAH. He is known for calm leadership on live sites, strong coordination and a focus on safe, efficient delivery that minimises disruption.

Brent Marsh is Technical Solutions Group Leader – Hydraulics based in NDY’s Perth office, specialising in hydraulic and fire services with 15+ years’ experience from trade to consulting. He has led or delivered works across health, education, civic and workplace projects including Peel Health Campus master planning, Hollywood Private Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital gas compliance and the Scarborough Beach redevelopment. Brent is a licensed plumbing contractor and gas fitter with active involvement in IHEA, ASPE, IPA and AHSCA. He brings practical insight, meticulous planning and clear site coordination to deliver compliant, maintainable systems that support safe, reliable operations.

Sydney

Nidyal Siddique specialises in electrical design and project leadership with experience across corrections, aviation, commercial and mission critical assets. He has led building upgrades and fitouts at Barangaroo, Marrickville Metro and multiple Sydney Airport programs, and contributed to large data centre programs for AWS and Meta. Nidyal’s work spans due diligence, lifecycle assessments, critical power upgrades and electrification studies aligned to client sustainability goals. He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and is a Chartered Professional Engineer and MIEAust. Nidyal is highly organised and collaborative, keeping complex stakeholder groups aligned while delivering safe, code‑compliant outcomes.

Marina Apfel is the Acoustics Manager for NDY’s Sydney office, specialising in architectural and building services acoustics with 18 years’ experience in Germany, New Zealand and Australia. She has led acoustic design and assessment for education and civic programs including SINSW school upgrades, North Gungahlin High School and the University of Tasmania’s Philip Smith Centre, as well as complex justice and prison PPPs. Marina holds a Dipl.-Ing. (FH) in Building Physics and is a Member of the Australian Acoustical Society. Marina was part of NDY’s team from 2011 until 2019. She rejoined our Sydney team in 2025.
