NDY was engaged by property development company ASK Developments to help review their approach to sustainability. The role involved coming up with an established framework to help ASK to ensure that its sustainability philosophy was well represented throughout its built asset portfolio.
ASK’s goal was to become becoming a leader in the delivery of sustainable developments. NDY was well placed to assist due to our well rehearsed appreciation of the social and environmental impacts of changes to the built environment.
As part of the process, NDY sought to develop standards which others developers would also be able to follow.
A sustainability toolkit was created to aid understanding of the broader debate and to help form a policy document, which encapsulates ASK’s sustainable intentions (Creating Sustainable Places).
Additionally, NDY also implemented robust frameworks for the delivery of sustainable projects across ASK’s portfolio called the Sustainability Framework and Green Brief. The Green Brief details each project from site inception to handover and identifies key sustainable decisions that are required to be made at various stages of a project’s lifecycle.
This project has demonstrated that significant improvements in the sustainability of a client’s developments can be achieved without significant increases to the financial burden. This is particularly so if all issues are addressed by all parties at the earliest opportunity, such as the design phase.
