Located 35 km southwest of Melbourne CBD and 3.5 km of Werribee CBD, Harpley is a 435 hectare masterplanned community by Lendlease, projected to house 12,000 residents on completion and generate long-term value for stakeholders.
Containing more than 60 hectares of planned lakes, waterways and surrounds, nearly a quarter of the site is dedicated to open space, including sports fields, village parks and gardens and hike and bike trails. In the heart of the community is the future lakeside town centre that will include up to 8,000 m2 of retail and vital amenity for the Harpley community.
The project obtained a 6 Star Green Star Communities PILOT v0.2 rating in 2016 and NDY was engaged by Lendlease to assist in the recertification in 2020. Being one of the first communities’ projects to undergo recertification, NDY’s scope included:
- extensive review of the initial Green Star Communities pathway and commitments made by Lendlease during the initial certification
- review and restructure of the sustainability strategy, including expert advice on additional best practice initiatives for inclusion in the development, aligning with the Green Star Communities pathway
- engagement with Lendlease and key project stakeholders to review the ongoing tracking of documentation required for the recertification, including fortnightly workshops to define the recertification strategy
- engagement with the Green Building Council of Australia on behalf of Lendlease to determine the best approach for recertification, including a review of Green Star Communities v1.1
- collation and preparation of the recertification for submission to the Green Building Council of Australia
- specialist advice to Lendlease on the ongoing tracking and monitoring requirements to ensure the sustainability strategy for the masterplanned community is delivered, and recertification process is streamlined for next time in 2025.
