NDY was appointed by NBN Co. for the engineering services concept planning, design and construction phase services for the National Operations and Testing Facility at Digital Harbour Melbourne.
The project consisted of the development of a new testing data centre, operations centre, test labs and general office area supported by new mission critical services infrastructure including standby generation, UPS and DC plant and air-cooled chillers.
The existing floor to ceiling zones presented challenges for the design and coordination of the operations centre and the data centre. Within the data centre, the project required the integration of both DC and AC power distribution systems in a restricted floor to ceiling zone.
3D design modelling was used to coordinate the cable tray paths and to coordinate with the other services. The design model was also used by the contractors to assist with their planning and coordination of works on site.
