Hydrox Nominees engaged NDY in 2011 for consulting services of a new Masters Home Improvement development in Keysborough.
NDY’s key role was to design the electrical (including BMS), fire protection and hydraulic systems and integrate these services with the D&C mechanical solution. NDY also provided fire safety engineering alternative solution designs for each development, which enables the large roofed area to be designed as an effective trading retail space. NDY has identified design efficiencies and improvements, working with other members of the design team to achieve a product that meets Masters’ requirements around customer experience and flexibility.
Key challenges overcome by NDY included the integration of the mechanical air conditioning plant with the electrical and control systems, during the early projects. Coordination between the mechanical D&C contractor and Masters ensured that the works were appropriately scoped so that the electrical systems could be installed without difficulty. NDY has continued to look for design improvements around key issues including artificial lighting and fire sprinkler flexibility; lighting concepts; smoke management and egress; and other aspects of the Masters brief.
Since completion of this development, NDY has been commissioned to undertake design and construction phase assistance on approximately eight new stores across Victoria and South Australia. NDY has also provided site suitability advice for many sites whilst assisting Masters to develop its ongoing Principle Project Requirements brief improvements.
