101 Miller Street is one of the most prominent commercial buildings in North Sydney. Built in 1992, NDY was appointed to act as the Green Star consultant for its re-development. NDY’s appointment came on the back of our unique costing interface software, GEM-3, which was developed in-house by NDY.
The ambitious A$40 million upgrade was undertaken on behalf of a client who was committed to ensuring that the development had strong sustainable credentials.
Following completion of the work, it was anticipated that this 35-storey building would achieve a four Green Star rating. However, given NDY’s detailed evaluation and submission, additional credit was awarded and the building became the first major refurbished commercial high rise to achieve a five Green Star rating. NDY was subsequently invited to detail its achievements at the Green Building Council of Australia’s ‘Breakfast with the Stars’.
A tri-generation system, comprising gas fired generator and an absorption chiller, enabled the project to realise its low energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. C0₂ savings have been estimated at 40%.
