Why work towards sustainability certification?

Sustainability certification turns good intentions into verified performance. It does this by helping ensure design decisions made with sustainable intent are carried through into delivery.

The framework behind each certification sets out:

  • performance requirements
  • evidence needed
  • review process
  • benchmarks for progress.

This gives you a more reliable, independent basis for reporting than self-assessment. It also provides greater confidence that your project will deliver real value for people, including your operations’ teams and community.

Certification should improve building performance. It can also provide evidence for leasing, investment and compliance.

Our sustainability certification services

We help asset owners and managers choose the right accreditation pathway before guiding them through the certification process. This includes:

  • linking rating requirements with practical engineering decisions
  • identifying what needs to be done and providing technical input, i.e. modelling
  • documenting what evidence is required and coordinating this evidence
  • looking into where design decisions may affect the rating outcome.

Our aim is to make certification useful to your project and asset.

Certification pathways

We recommend considering certification as early as possible in any construction project, maximising design opportunities that impact your rating.

We can support you with the following accreditations:

  • BREEAM – a sustainability assessment method used across building design and operations
  • GRESB – environmental, social and governance (ESG) benchmarking and reporting
  • LEED – an international rating system for sustainable buildings and fitouts
  • Living Building Challenge – a framework for projects seeking high-performance regenerative outcomes
  • NABERS & NABERS UK– operational ratings for building performance
  • WELL – a rating system focused on the health and experience of building users.

We also support regulatory sustainability pathways including BASIX in NSW, which applies to residential development, and BESS in Victoria, which helps demonstrate sustainable design at the planning permit stage.

In the United Kingdom, we support The UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UKNZCBS).

Our team

Our sustainability specialists are experienced and qualified in assessment and modelling across the different certification frameworks. We also sit on many of the working groups for these frameworks, helping to shape how they work and the impact they have.
