What is whole-of-life carbon?
Whole-of-life carbon captures the impact of:
- extraction and manufacture of materials
- transport to site
- construction
- maintenance, refurbishment and material replacement
- operational energy and water
- end of life, recovery, recycling and reuse.
Our whole-of-life carbon services
We help you understand the carbon impact across your project lifecycle and how to reduce it. The earlier you start assessing your carbon, the easier it is to reduce emissions and make informed design decisions.
Baseline assessment
At early design stage, we carry out a high-level assessment to identify high-impact materials and design strategies. We work closely with architects and structural engineers during this stage.
Design optioneering
We then collaborate with your design team to investigate design optimisations to reduce the use of high-impact materials or design strategies to identify lower-carbon alternatives and improve project outcomes.
Modelling and design refinement
We use modelling to test and review the options, providing evidence to support design and procurement.
Implementation through procurement and construction
We then help you embed a lower-carbon design strategy through to procurement and construction. We do this through contractor and supplier engagement, product reviews, material assessments, procurement advice and multidisciplinary design collaboration.
As-built assessment and verification
At project completion, we calculate the final environmental impact and whole-of-life carbon savings achieved through both material selection and operational efficiencies, for example energy and water use reductions. This verifies the final impact and reductions achieved against the reference case, benchmark or target.
Certification and compliance support
Keeping on top of the evolving requirements of sustainability frameworks like Green Star, government requirements and organisational targets can be challenging. We’re here to help you fulfil your requirements, achieve targets and continually improve performance. Together, we can make informed decisions that reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to a low-carbon future.
