Green Star certification helps teams design, deliver and operate spaces with better sustainability outcomes. It provides a recognised framework for setting sustainability targets, documenting outcomes and achieving independent verification.
We help you choose the right Green Star pathway with a practical certification strategy and the technical inputs needed. This could be Green Star Buildings, Green Star Fitouts, Green Star Performance, Green Star Communities or Green Star Homes.
Developed by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and New Zealand Building Council (NZGBC), Green Star can support:
- early design decisions that improve energy, water, materials and indoor environment outcomes
- circular economy and lower carbon strategies
- climate adaptation and resilience planning
- town planning requirements for development approvals
- leasing, investment and environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting
- operational performance for existing assets
- alignment with needs of tenants, including health and wellbeing.
Our Green Star certification services
Our aim is to make Green Star useful to your project and asset. Your rating should support performance, help manage cost and align with your commercial, operational and ESG priorities.
Our services include:
- reviewing the project brief against Green Star requirements
- developing a Green Star strategy aligned with your priorities
- identifying the most practical and valuable credits to target
- preparing scorecards and certification pathways
- coordinating evidence across the project team
- providing technical input, modelling and assessments
- preparing Green Star specifications and contract requirements
- reviewing design responses against targeted credits
- supporting construction phase queries and submissions
- managing documentation and submission to the GBCA.
The certification is most effective when considered early. This gives your team time to understand the rating pathway, test the implications and make informed decisions while there’s still flexibility in design.
Why Green Star strategy matters
Green Star isn’t about ticking every available credit. Each project has different drivers and constraints. A strategy helps the project team focus effort where it will have greatest impact.
Some clients we work with focus on energy efficiency, water and carbon. Others place greater emphasis on circularity, health and wellbeing or climate resilience.
Technical expertise in one team
As an integrated engineering consultancy, we can support both certification management and the technical inputs behind it. This offers a clear link between rating requirements and practical engineering decisions.
We can provide the following technical services to support your Green Star Rating:
- Energy modelling
- Modelling for daylight, glare, thermal comfort and potable water
- Life-cycle assessment and upfront carbon assessment
- Climate adaptation planning.
Green Star experience
Our sustainability team has provided consultancy services for more than 100 Green Star rated projects. We understand the rating tools, evidence requirements, common challenges and credits that need early attention.
We also work closely with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) and have contributed to the development of Green Star ratings and the New Zealand Green Star Buildings framework. Several of our team are certified assessors for Green Star in both Australia and New Zealand.
